I just received this post via e-mail today from Lutherans Concerned. It is a step in the right direction so thank you Episcopal Church for moving forward toward full equality!!!
Yesterday, July 14, the U.S. Episcopal Church, meeting in its General Convention, voted to affirm membership in the Anglican Communion and to declare that all orders of ministry, including the episcopate, are open to the LGBT baptized of the church.
Effectively this vote ends the three-year moratorium the U.S. Episcopal Church imposed on itself, at its last General Convention in 2006, not to elevate to the level of bishop any openly gay clergy who were in committed, long-term same-gender relationships. The same resolution in 2006 also placed a moratorium on blessing same-gender, long-term, committed relationships.
We are pleased for our brothers and sisters in the U.S. Episcopal Church, for the recognition this action gives to lives lived to the highest single standard in service to the ministry of the church and the spreading of the gospel. This is the second of the ELCA's full communion partners who have taken this step, the United Church of Christ being the first. Those who took this momentous decision and those who disagree with this decision are to be lifted up in your prayers. We also pray the Spirit will so work in the upcoming churchwide assembly of the ELCA that a similar outcome for full inclusion is had.
Today, the Convention started taking up the issue of ending the moratorium on blessings.
